ISRO Gets a Boost from Private Sector Momentum.. India Achieves a Historic Space Milestone with ‘Vikram-1’!

A historic milestone has been achieved in India’s space sector as the country’s first fully privately developed orbital rocket, ‘Vikram-1’, was successfully launched into space. The mission, named ‘Mission AgniBaan’, was conducted from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota and marked a significant achievement for India in the global space industry.

With this success, India has further strengthened its position among countries capable of independently developing and launching commercial rockets into orbit.

Vikram-1 Launch Showcases Indian Engineering Excellence

The launch of Vikram-1, which soared into the sky with flames during liftoff, highlighted the technological capabilities and dedication of Indian engineers.

Although the launch was briefly delayed due to a minor technical issue before liftoff, all stages of the rocket performed successfully after the launch according to the planned mission profile.

Standing nearly seven storeys tall, Vikram-1 has been designed using lightweight carbon composite materials. The rocket is capable of carrying payloads of around 350 kg into Low Earth Orbit (LEO).

One of the major highlights of the rocket is that its engines were developed using indigenous 3D printing technology, showcasing India’s advancements in modern aerospace manufacturing.

Satellites and Special Payloads Sent into Space

During its maiden orbital mission, Vikram-1 carried several technology demonstration payloads from companies including:

  • Ghar Space
  • CosmoServe
  • D-Cubed

The rocket also carried ‘SCOPE’, an experimental payload developed by Skyroot Aerospace.

Adding a special emotional touch to the mission, the rocket also transported a Vande Mataram postcard handwritten by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with special messages from:

  • Current and former ISRO Chairpersons
  • Indian astronauts
  • Space industry investors

The engineering data collected from this mission will play a crucial role in improving future commercial space missions.
