Ambati Alleges Misuse of Police for Political Revenge
YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and former minister Ambati Rambabu has strongly alleged that the Andhra Pradesh coalition government is “murdering democracy” by pursuing political vendetta against its opponents. He accused the government of misusing the police machinery to target opposition leaders, journalists, and social media activists instead of maintaining law and order in the state.
Speaking at a media conference on Monday, Ambati said the police were acting in the interests of the ruling alliance rather than performing their constitutional duties. He alleged that multiple criminal cases were being filed against individuals who questioned the government.
Questions Raised Over Arrests of Prashna Ravan and Journalist KVR
Ambati Rambabu stated that YouTuber Prashna Ravan and journalist KVR are not members of the YSRCP, yet the party strongly opposes what it describes as illegal cases filed against them.
He said that if anyone had committed an offence, the allegations should be proven in a court of law rather than repeatedly registering fresh cases to harass them. According to Ambati, Prashna Ravan has been arrested five times, and every time he secured bail, he was arrested again, which he described as a clear example of abuse of power.
UAPA Case Challenges the Judicial System, Says Ambati
The former minister alleged that after courts refused to grant remand in earlier cases, the government invoked the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in an attempt to bypass judicial scrutiny.
He criticised the decision to invoke an anti-terror law against a YouTuber, calling it a dangerous misuse of legislation intended for terrorism-related offences. Ambati claimed that such actions amounted to challenging the judiciary itself.
YSRCP Promises Legal Support to Victims
Ambati Rambabu announced that the YSRCP would extend full legal assistance to those facing what the party considers politically motivated cases.
He specifically mentioned Sai Krishna, Kanthi Kumar, Prashna Ravan, and KVR, stating that although none of them belong to the YSRCP, the party would stand by anyone subjected to injustice. He said the party’s support was based on principles of justice rather than political affiliation.
“Victims Are Being Turned Into Accused”
The YSRCP leader warned that his party would not tolerate what he described as a trend of turning victims into accused persons.
He alleged that those who criticise the government are being threatened with serious charges, including UAPA cases, while individuals who praise the government receive protection. According to him, the coalition government is prioritising political vendetta against social media activists instead of addressing the real issues affecting the people of Andhra Pradesh.
Government Ignoring Cases Against Those Who Abuse YSRCP, Claims Ambati
Ambati further alleged that the government was taking no action against individuals who allegedly abuse him or the YSRCP. However, he claimed that those who question or criticise the government are being arrested immediately.
He described the situation as completely contrary to democratic values and accused the ruling alliance of applying the law selectively.
Ambati to Submit Representation to DGP
Ambati Rambabu announced that he would visit the Director General of Police (DGP) office on the 29th of this month to submit a representation demanding the immediate arrest of those accused in the attack on his residence that allegedly took place on January 31 this year.
He expressed confidence that the people of Andhra Pradesh are closely watching what he termed the government’s “undemocratic governance” and said they would deliver an appropriate verdict at the right time.
