The parents of Sugali Preethi, Sugali Parvathi and Raju Naik met Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and the chief of YSR Congress Party to ask for justice for their daughter. They said that after nine years they have not got justice. The family said that the government at that time did not do its job and that their daughters death was used for gain.
What Happened in 2017
Sugali Preethi was a 14-year- girl who was studying in a private school near Kurnool. She died on August 19 2017 under circumstances. The school said she killed herself. Her parents said she was attacked and killed by people connected to the school. The family also said that important politicians tried to protect the people who did this. This case became very famous in Andhra Pradesh politics. Made a lot of people especially from the Dalit and tribal communities very angry.
Delay and Evidence Problems
From 2017 to 2019 the victims family said that the investigation did not move forward. They also said that people tried to destroy evidence. Because of problems with DNA evidence the courts let the accused people out on bail, which made the public even angrier. The family also said that they did not get legal or financial help when they needed it. During this time politicians were criticized for not speaking out about the issue.
Jagans Promise
When Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was traveling around the state he met Sugali Preethis parents. Promised that if his party came to power they would investigate the case again. After the YSR Congress Party formed the government in 2019 the case was. A new officer, Ramadevi was appointed to investigate. The victims family was happy about this. Thought that they would finally get justice.
Pawan Kalyans Involvement
As the investigation moved forward Pawan Kalyan started criticizing the way the case was being handled. After the 2019 Disha incident in Hyderabad he demanded action in the Sugali Preethi case. Said that there would be protests if justice was delayed. Pawan Kalyan met Preethis parents. Talked about the case in his political campaigns and on social media. In February 2020 before Jagans visit to Kurnool he organized a rally to demand that the case be given to the CBI.
Asking for a CBI Investigation
When Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy visited Kurnool in February 2020 Preethis parents asked him to transfer the case to the CBI. The Andhra Pradesh government stopped the investigation. Transferred the case to the CBI. Pawan Kalyan welcomed this decision.
Politics and the Case
Even after the case was given to the CBI there were still arguments. Some people said that Pawan Kalyan did not talk about the accused people who were connected to the government. They also asked why the names of the accused were not discussed in public.
Help for the Family
The YSRCP government gave other help to the victims family in 2021. This included money, land and a job for Preethis father. The family thanked them for this help.
Criticism of Pawan Kalyan
Before the 2024 elections Pawan Kalyan promised to ensure justice in the case.. Now people are criticizing him for not doing anything after coming to power. They also say that he did not put pressure on the CBI to investigate the case. The victims family is. Frustrated.
March for Justice
Sugali Preethis parents are planning a “Justice Yatra” from Kurnool to Amaravati to demand justice for their daughter. They said that they were not allowed to do this march and that some politicians insulted them. This has started a debate in Andhra Pradesh again. People are asking if politics delayed justice, for Sugali Preethi and if powerful people stopped the investigation on purpose.
