Pensions Cancelled on MLA’s Recommendation? Andhra Pradesh High Court Expresses Concern

There is a big problem in Andhra Pradesh about pensions. The Andhra Pradesh High Court is very unhappy about this. It seems that some people who get pensions did not get them anymore because of what a ruling party MLA said. The court is not happy with the officials. This is a big topic of discussion now.

High Court Questions Pension Cancellation Process

The High Court looked at a case about two widows, one person who is differently-abled and two single women who did not get their pensions anymore. The court said some things about why pensions are necessary.

The court said:

“A pension is not something the government gives you because they want to. It is something you have a right to so you can live a life.”

The High Court also said that pensions are very important for widows, people who’re differently-abled and single women. It is not right to stop their pensions.

Background of the Case

Five people from Masakhapuram village in Ichchapuram Mandal of Srikakulam district went to the High Court in 2024. They were upset because their pensions were stopped.

The people who went to the court are:

  • Thalli Ramakrishna, who is differently-abled
  • Baki Kuramma and Kanningi Mohini, who are widows
  • Asidalamma and Arthikatla Lolakshi alias Lolamma, who are women

Their pensions were stopped in November 2024. They asked the court to help them get their pensions back.

Were Actions Taken Based on MLA’s Letter?

The advocate for the people Ellareddy talked to the court.

He said that these people were getting pensions for a time.. Then the officials stopped the pensions. The officials said they stopped the pensions because of a letter from the village sarpanch.. The people who did not get their pensions said that the officials already decided to stop the pensions before they got the letter.

The advocate also said that the officials might have stopped the pensions because of a letter from the MLA.. The officials said they did not get any letter from the MLA.

High Court Refers to YSR Pension Kanuka Scheme

The High Court also talked about the YSR Pension Kanuka scheme.

The court said that the scheme is to help people, old people, widows and people who are differently-abled. The court said that the government wants to help these people by giving them pensions.

Questions Raised Over Officials’ Conduct

Now people are asking some questions.

  • Did the officials stop the pensions because of what the MLA said?
  • Why did the officials not show the court the report they used to stop the pensions?
  • Did the officials do a job of looking into the matter before stopping the pensions?

These questions are being discussed by people now.

High Court Sends Strong Message on Pension Rights

The Andhra Pradesh High Court said again that pensions are not something the government gives you because they want to. Pensions are something you have a right to. The court is not happy, with what happened. People are waiting to see what the court will decide. This could affect how pensions are given in Andhra Pradesh.
